Post-Christmas, Get-Back-in-the-Swing-of-It Post
Monday, December 27, 2010 at 11:47AM Christmas is finally over. Do we all miss it already? I know I do but now that it's gone, I can finally get back into a normal routine, especially when it comes to blogging because I've been a bit neglectful these past few days. December just whizzed by and Christmas just came and went oh so quickly.
Did everyone have a nice Christmas? Mine was perfect, very relaxing and low-key which is totally my style of holiday. We all woke up late (I particularly had reason to because the night before I had gotten only 3 hours of sleep) and then my Mom, brother, and I all took Scout (our dog) for a midday walk. I helped my Mom in the kitchen a bit. We all got ready for dinner which we shared with my Stepdad, his two sons (my stepbrothers), and one of their girlfriends. After a delicious dinner and a glorious pumpkin and apple pie dessert, we shared presents and enjoyed each other's company. Perfect! It was Scout's first Christmas and she got lucky with a bunch of toys...the joke was that she got more presents than anyone else. She particularly enjoyed sticking her nose in all of the empty bags after everyone had opened gifts. I could not have been happier with my day with family.
I was super busy leading up to Christmas with two DIY posts that I worked on for The Knotty Bride and Emmaline Bride. I had so much fun putting both of them together and they really got me in the Christmas spirit. The post I did for Emmaline Bride was actually my own personal decor that I did for our mantel. We have never had a fireplace before and so I was determined make the most of our new mantel, making it look all Christmasy! Our living room is actually light blue so I complimented that color scheme with pops of grey, white, silver, and gold. I like that it is not the traditional red and green. Here are a few of my favorite pictures:

I am equally as proud and in love with my DIYs (there were four DIYs in one post!) for The Knotty Bride. With this decor, I used more gold tones and used kraft paper, manila folders, vintage book pages, and paper doilies to craft some fun, holiday paper goods. Everything I did was fairly simple so these were great DIYs for people looking to make something last minute. I was so happy the way everything turned out and my images looked beautiful up on Alison's site. Here are a few of my favorite images:

But the highlight was getting to use the sparkly Christmas snow. It added this dreamy, sparkly, magical touch to everything and it photographed beautifully. Logistically, it is kind of a pain because it makes cleaning up difficult and it also sticks to your fingers a bit but it was totally worth it. I definitely recommend it for future Christmas decorating. I bought mine at Anthropologie but it is not something they will carry forever. Here is a link where you can buy the same old-fashioned looking box I bought or you can purchase similar Mica sparkly flakes from Save On Crafts. Either way, you should get it!

Did anyone do any crafting for Christmas? I would love to see other people's creations! It is definitely hard to find the time to get crafty during the holiday season but adding handmade touches to your decor is priceless.

Great looking Winterscape! Is "LOVE" spelled out in Scrabble tiles or just wooden tiles? I've been looking for non-Scrabble wooden tiles for a while.
Sooo pretty! Now that the holidays are over I'm getting into the spirit! LOL.
