My Saturday, Shooting a Video with Friends + Cats
Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 11:40AM So I am finally back to blogging after the long weekend. Yes, technically I should have started yesterday but I felt crappy so I spent most of the day sleeping/watching tv. But today is a new day, with a new post sharing how I spent my Saturday. Once again I was in and around LA with some friends. I got to see Elysse again (always a plus!) and Pat (he needs to get a blog or something so I can link to him) who is out visiting from New York. The whole purpose of the trip was to help put a video together that highlights the lamp Pat designed. I briefly mentioned Pat's noble pursuits here but to explain again...Pat has gotten into furniture and lamp design and in order to show off his brilliance properly, he needed to get some stellar images taken. He also wanted to put together a short video showing his design and highlighting its use (hopefully that video goes viral because Elysse and I make a cameo in it!!). Pat asked Shannon, a good friend of his and a USC film student, to capture the images and video and from what I saw on Saturday, everything will be amazing! I cannot wait to see the finished product. I was happy to help (although I didn't do much) and I really loved seeing it all come together.

Our filming began at a USC photo lab (sadly I never knew it existed when I went there). Film geniuses are discussing on the right, Pat is modeling on the left while the light is tested. Shannon and her friends had amazing cameras/lenses and I was super jealous.

Here's Pat with his...CAT...wah? Ok, let me explain the cat. Pat is really holding his lamp design in this picture but he probably doesn't want it to be revealed quite yet. So I did some strategic photoshopping with this cat clipart and now we can enjoy this picture of Pat without revealing the surprise design. And why the cat? Well, I figured Pat would appreciate it...also, more cats are coming up so there is a theme here.

Elysse's cameo! Elysse you look adorable...also, kind of nervous. Yes I agree, the photoshop job on this large cat is scary.
Our second shooting location was a beautiful, old house in Pasadena.

The Pasadena location was perfect and I think the shots here will look fantastic. I also like it because it's a real location. Studio shots are nice but I prefer real context so you understand how something is supposed to be used in a space.

Side-note: I love it when rugs like the one above are put outside. Bringing the inside out?
And to end this post...another cat!

And this time, it's a real one! This cat, who is a resident of the Pasadena home, is clearly extremely excited about her close-up and is enjoying the attention all these cat paparazzi are giving her. During filming we pointed out that this was a little like cat porn (yikes, hopefully such a thing does not exist?).
I can't wait to reveal the real footage from Saturday and not just these behind-the-scenes shots + cat porn. The real thing will be much better, I promise...no bad photoshopping.

I love how apprehensive I look. Can I pet the cat? Will it bite? I'M NOT SURE!
