Font Love, Vol. XXIV: Dawning of a New Day

Happy Friday blog world and it's a Font Friday at that! The type love that we have going on here makes Fridays even more sweet. I have another freebie to share today, a lovely kind of the handwritten variety by designer Kimberly Geswein. Kimberly actually has a whole slew of handwritten fonts (see them all on DaFont) that are free for personal use. I actually recognized a few personal favorites as I was browsing her collection but today I want to highlight Dawning of a New Day. It is a simple script but perfect if your cursive isn't quite up to snuff. I know mine is lacking majorly so Kimberly's version is a great alternative.

As a matter of fact, all of my writing, print and cursive alike, is suffering these days in the era of computers. Now that I am out of school I rarely have a reason to write. When I do write it's usually in my personal sketchbooks and I don't worry too much what my writing looks like in there...hence writing that is becoming less and less beautiful. Is handwriting becoming a lost art? I doubt it will completely go away but I have so much respect and fascination for the handwriting of our ancestors. I cherish the delicate script on the back of postcards that I collect when I'm antique shopping. Do you find you are writing less and less? Sometimes when I do write for too long (like for more than 5 minutes straight) my hand starts to hurt. So sad! I used to have to write timed essays that were pages long in high school. I should work on my writing tolerance apparently.

Here is a little inspiration I created with Dawning of a New Day:

Also for the last two days I have been doing some major Photoshopping to clean up my blog and create new links, badges, and icons for easier navigation. I still have a few tweaks to make but the column on the right-hand side is evidence of my work. I think the design looks a lot cleaner and more cohesive. I would love to get some professional help one day but for now I like the adjustments and customizations I can make here on Squarespace. Do you like the changes I've made?

Happy Friday friends and have a great weekend! See you all next week.
