Simple Wood Heart DIY
Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 4:01AM I have a little mid-week DIY inspiration to share today and it sure was a last minute one too. Yesterday I was trying to plan out what I would post and I was in a rush because daylight was running out (I need nice natural light for pictures). I realized that instead of forcing an idea I should share something I am currently working on. I am in the process of putting together these Valentines for a client and there was one detail that I just had to emphasize and show you today.

I am adding these simple wood hearts to the Valentine's cards I'm designing. They are so easy to make and I think they provide a perfect detail for packaging. With Valentine's Day coming up, you could incorporate this handmade heart into your gift wrapping in all kinds of ways.

Beauty really is in the simple and little things isn't it? Even as I was styling these items I began to appreciate their simple beauty more and more. Sometimes we (me definitely included) forget that just a few items can have such an impact, can be such an inspiration. I really need to remember this more often. More does not always mean best.

Here are the few steps to making these hearts for yourself. It is possible to find wood hearts at your local craft store but I purchased mine from Woodworks Ltd. I've purchased from this company before and been very happy with them. I got the 1 1/4" hearts. Drill a small hole at the top of the heart. Use a small drill bit, I think mine is 1/16". Then stamp your message. I used my absolute favorite custom letter stamp kit. Wrap up your presents with these hearts and a bit of twine and you have a beautiful, simple package to give to your Valentine (wow, that rhymes).

I love packaging, don't you? It can be whatever you want it to be. I like simple and sweet and this is exactly what these elements are.
I have a few more Valentine-inspired projects to share with you so if you need ideas stay tuned. And if you don't have a Valentine this year, join the club. No matter your relationship status you can still enjoy pretty things and the love that inspires them. Happy Wednesday!

I was looking forward to this post and you did not disappoint! I love how simple it is and yet how much it can add to the packaging. I really need to get myself one of those awesome stamps. On a little unrelated noted, I'm travelling to L.A. in March and was wondering if you had any cool craft or vintage stores that you would recommend?
