Pinterest Picks, Vol. V

Happy Friday friends! Another week has gone by and once again the weekend is upon us. Do you have any fun plans for the next few days? I am in the process of writing an article for Houzz about gardening and springtime flowers so I have that on the brain. And I have been pinning a lot of floral and plant inspiration over on Pinterest lately so I thought I might share a few DIYs I've discovered around the blogosphere that would make for the perfect weekend project. Just a few ideas to kickstart some creativity this weekend. If you want to get your hands dirty (and I mean literally if you are planting something) you might want to start with these simple techniques.

I especially love the last project because it is so, so easy. Just grab a few cans out of your recycle, dab some paint on them and you have an instant new piece of decor. Isn't it amazing how much of an impact you can make with something so inconsequential? Like something you would normally throw out? We are lucky to have so "much" in our lives. I think, when we can, it is crucial to repurpose.

Have a lovely weekend!

Styling Vignettes: Yellow Wildflowers

Happy Monday and new week to you all! Today kicks off a busy few days for me as I get moving on this big wedding deadline I have coming up. I'll be sharing some more sneak peeks this week of all the wedding details I've designed but I occasionally snap photos and post them on Instagram so you can follow along there too. Everything is soft pink with burlap details, quite feminine and romantic. Although I will be busy, the work is quite enjoyable so I think it will feel less like work and more like play. Well, hopefully at least.

I want to kick off this Monday with something cheerful and beautiful and since it is spring, this floral inspiration is just the thing. Flowers seem to be everywhere right now so on a recent walk, I started collecting some of the pieces that really spoke to me. Mustard flowers and yellow wildflowers are springing up all over the place in Southern California so I let those blooms be the focus to my assortment.

I paired the yellow with grey and nude tones that take a backseat to the flowers while still providing a great textural quality to the collection. I love the prickly looking stem on the far left.

I found all these pieces along the side of the road and some are probably considered weeds. But even weeds, these accidents of the plant world so to speak, can have such impressive little qualities. Like the grey plant with those cottony poofs? It reminds me of some wacky Dr. Seuss tree. And the big, yellow bloom is almost like a mini sunflower.

Although I usually walk for exercise, I love taking leisurely strolls and finding the time to appreciate some of these small but lovely details. They are all around. Like most busy people, I don't always notice but when I do it is worth the extra time.

What little things are you noticing and appreciating this spring?

For You // For Home, Volume II

Happy Wednesday friends! It's half-way through the week and I have some super fun neon inspiration to share today. I spotted these fabulous neon shoes on Pinterest the other day and couldn't resist posting about them. The color and texture make for the perfect combination, don't you agree? These would, for sure, be in my closet if it weren't for the $195 price tag. I can't quite justify that much for flats (unfortunately). I decided to pair these dream shoes with a neon print in this edition of For You // For Home.

for home { print by Shop Ampersand via Etsy }

Also take a browse through the Shop Ampersand virtual storefront. Everything is so colorful, cheerful and modern. They have a lot of prints but also some melamine platters which would make for the perfect hostess gift...or gift for yourself (lets be honest).

Are you enjoying the neon trend? I like little hints of it, especially when paired with neutrals that tone it down. How would you use neon in your home?

Houzz March Ideabook: Watercolors in the Home

On this lovely morning I'd like to share my March ideabook that I put together for Houzz. Being spring, I am so inspired by colors right now and I wanted this curated gallery to be a reflection of that. If you follow along here regularly you also know that I have been doing a lot of watercolors lately, using it personally as well as in a few projects for clients. I decided to go on a search for homegoods that were not only colorful but also evocative of watercolors, brush strokes, and paint washes.

I found some gorgeous products from both handmade, independent artisans as well as big brand shops. I think all of the items have great textural qualities and would be a perfect infusion of color into any home. If you are a fan of watercolor, might I recommend these twenty finds:

You can visit my Houzz profile at Lauren Elise Crafted to see more of my ideabooks. Houzz is an amazing resource for those wanting to gather home inspiration for remodels or projects. Not only can you search products like the ones I've featured here but also thousands of pictures of real homes in different cities and different styles. It is visual cataloging, similar to Pinterest, but the searching is so much more specific and defined. So check it out, sign up, and start creating your own galleries for your upcoming home projects.

I hope you enjoyed the color inspiration today. Happy Wednesday!

Fashion & Florals, Edition II

Hi everyone! How is your Tuesday going? Today I'm bringing you a second edition of Fashion & Florals, where I pair together some of my favorite floral and clothing inspiration. For me, finding new clothing brands that really speak to me and capture my style is not always an easy task. My tastes have gotten more discerning as I've gotten older. I buy a lot of things from Anthropologie because I work there but at times they can even miss the mark for me. Lately the brand Madewell has sparked my interest. Everything feels very simple and classic which I like. I love the styling and the attitude and all the pops of color. Take a look at their latest catalog to get a better feel for their brand. They have some pastel neutrals now that feel so fresh for spring. So for today, I chose one of their dresses to highlight.

I paired the Madewell dress with this bouquet I found on Fieldguided. The blushy, muted tones compliment each other and the hint of blue-gray color in both the dress and the flowers make a nice match. The flowers were arranged and styled by the talented Alison Westlake of Coriander Girl. Browse her beautiful portfolio of arrangements for more inspiration. I just discovered her lovely work and I'm so glad I did.

Enjoy the rest of your day friends!
